Olay’s New Body Collection Offers Exotic Ingredients

Three steps to smooth, healthy skin: cleanse to remove impurities, massage to keep skin healthy and moisturize to hydrate – every day. And right at your local drugstore you can find luxurious spa-like products that do all three:

The new Body Collection from Olay contains exotic ingredients such as — jojoba butter, mineral crystals, crushed orchid, seaweed extracts. Typically, these would be found only at specialty stores for twice the price!

There are three fragrances: Luscious Embrace, Silk Whimsy and Purely Pristine. Each comes in a moisturizing body wash, a cleansing body wash, a moisturizing lotion and the first of its kind massaging bar soap with built-in massage “nubs” that leave skin super smooth. It turns a boring shower into a sensory experience…

Luscious Embrace is lushly exotic, merging the scent of crushed orchid extract with hints of papaya, blackberry and black currant.

Silk Whimsy is deeply romantic, with rose scent touched by notes of citrus, melon, jasmine, sandalwood and vanilla.

Purely Pristine is clearly refreshing, infusing mineral crystals and seaweed extract with cucumber, light melon, lily of the valley and crisp apple.

Look to L’Bel for Luxurious, Affordable Beauty

When it comes to makeup and beauty, women want affordable luxury. That may sound like an “oxymoron,” but in this case, it’s not. I found a fabulous brand – new to the U.S. from one of South America’s largest skincare companies – called L’Bel, that gives women exactly what they want.

For a quick morning routine, I recommend starting every day by protecting your face from the sun with L’Bel’s light, oil free UV Defense with SPF 50.

Then, follow up with Neuvive Si, a light, hydrating facial lotion, to lock in moisture.

Next, try the Chromatique Eye Shadow / Blush combo kit – mix and match with the small brush for the eye shadow colors and swipe all the colors together with the large brush for the blush.

Finally, a quick spritz with the light fragrance Illimitee and you’re set for the day.

L’Bel is an international beauty brand recognized for its skin care product lines. The company takes a modern, scientific approach to beauty with the understanding that everyone’s skin is unique and has specific needs. With that in mind, they have developed a broad range of skin care solutions including a complete line of skin care, fragrance, body care and makeup products.

Each of these products is available at L’Bel USA or through an independent beauty advisor. If you’d like to find one in your area or to host your own beauty party, you can call 1.800.992.LBEL.

Nourish Your Body The Tropical Way

Have you ever cracked open a coconut?

It’s not exactly the easiest thing to cut up and use. Yet, this hard-shelled, husk-covered tropical fruit offers an abundance of healing properties.

Like many of the most powerful natural remedies, coconuts have been used for medicinal purposes since ancient times. Only recently have they gotten recognition by modern medicine for their wide range of health benefits.

Not only that, but health benefits can be derived from almost every layer of the coconut. This includes the coconut flesh, fruit, water, milk and oil.

Coconut water, or the water found inside a fresh, usually green coconut, is particularly fascinating. According to recent research, regular consumption of coconut water can:1

•    Aid in digestion and calm acid reflux
•    Improve blood circulation
•    Serve as an excellent source of calcium, magnesium, potassium and fiber
•    Reduce the risk of cancer
•    Boost HDL cholesterol levels (that’s your “good” cholesterol)

… and that’s just the beginning.

Coconut oil, on the other hand, can

•    Soften the hair and condition the scalp when used as a conditioner
•    Help heal and repair dry, cracked skin
•    Prevent the formation of destructive, free radicals when used in a lotion

Then there’s the coconut peptide. Peptides are important ingredients in today’s cutting-edge anti-aging skincare products. From a molecular point of view, peptides are actually the building blocks of proteins. They have the ability to influence cells in different ways, so they perform certain functions.

Peptides have this influence because of their ability to enter skin cells while remaining intact.2 Even better, they can penetrate the protective barriers of the skin to have an effect on the deeper layers.3

Coconut peptides offer rejuvenation benefits that include:

•    Cell regeneration
•    Improved collagen production

These two benefits promote younger, fresher looking skin.

I’m so impressed with the benefits of coconut peptides I’ve decided to include them as a primary ingredient in a new age-defying moisturizer I’m developing. I can promise you it will be a riveting, natural new way to protect your skin from the effects of aging.

I’ll let you know as soon as it’s available!

In the meantime, enjoy some coconut. No matter what form of the fruit you choose, it’s likely to benefit your health in some way.

Spring Into Action!

Ah, springtime! Flowers are blooming, birds are chirping, warm weather is just around the corner, and with it comes that annual urge to clean.

When you think of spring cleaning, you probably think of traditional cleaning and organizing, but what about spring cleaning for your life? This year, move beyond the traditional routine of cleaning out your cupboards and closets and consider rearranging and reorganizing other areas of your life, such as your exercise routine, your makeup bag and your mind.

Below are some of the most effective ways to spring-clean your life.

Tips for Spring Cleaning, the Aging Backwards Way

Clean Out Your Makeup Drawer – Clearing out your makeup drawer once a year makes room for new products and colors. This is especially true if you’re like most women and you accumulate cosmetics by the bagful over the course of a year.

Another advantage is you’ll likely find products at the bottom of your makeup case or drawer that you forgot about … like that fabulous pink lipstick you bought but never wore.

As you clean out your makeup drawer, take time to wash your brushes thoroughly. Natural oils and embedded makeup accumulate deep in the bristles over time, which invites bacteria. I recommend Dawn dishwashing liquid as a quick way to remove oil from brushes thoroughly. It’s even used to clean birds and other wildlife that have been exposed to oil spills. If it can clean the birds, it can certainly remove oil from your brushes.

Purge the Fridge – This is a good time to go through the refrigerator and throw away all your expired foods. Though it’s easy to dispose of spoiled fruits and vegetables when they’re past their prime, it’s a little harder to pay attention to expiration dates on cans and bottles.

Every spring, I like to read the expiration dates just to make sure everything I eat is as fresh as possible.

Improve Your Workout – If you’ve been doing the same workout for a while, now is a good time to change things up. After all, your body has a unique way of adapting to routine and you may not be getting as much out of your workout as you once did.

Switch to an exercise routine that incorporates variety, such as Dr. Al Sears’ PACE program. It’s a system that effectively melts body fat, pumps up your energy, and strengthens your heart and lungs in just 12 minutes. You can start from whatever condition you’re in now and progressively increase the intensity for an effective workout. You can even mix it up with strength training, dance and yoga.

According to the Mayo Clinic, exercise combats chronic disease, improves your mood, and helps you sleep better and manage your weight – and that’s just the beginning of the numerous benefits to working out.

Reshape Your Attitude – Springtime has a way of raising your spirits, especially if you tend to suffer from the winter blues. Make the most of this uplifting time and write out a list of all the things for which you feel grateful.

This will remind you of all the blessings in your life and will lift your spirits. After all, gratitude is good for the soul. Plus, gratitude has a magical way of zapping away anger, disappointment and anything else that might be making you feel bad.

I also encourage you to dispel old grudges, call a friend you may have had a falling out with, or stop procrastinating and finally start that new project you want to tackle.

Let springtime be a time for renewal, reorganization and revitalization in your life!

Tis Is Sweet, Honey!

honey

Did you know honey does a lot more than sweeten your tea and baked goods? This natural treat also moisturizes, sanitizes and even reduces inflammation.

In fact, honey has been used for healing purposes since ancient times, most commonly as a wound disinfectant. Plus, the fact that honey never goes bad made it extremely useful to keep on hand before modern refrigeration was invented.

A tomb uncovered in the Egyptian Valley of the Kings proved honey was used when pharaohs reigned. According to TourEgypt.com, “Some vessels that were uncorked by the archeologists still contained honey that was almost liquid.” Incredibly, the sweet scent had been preserved despite the thousands of years that had passed.

When antibiotics came into use, dressing wounds with honey gradually fell by the wayside. Lately though, medical practitioners are starting to bring it back.

That’s because honey is not only natural, it has remarkable anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. Honey also has been shown to speed up the healing process with minimal scarring.

Really Raw Honey is a Maryland-based company that specializes in bringing beekeepers together and getting their products out to the public. “Our honey is packed on-site at the beekeepers’ homes and farms, straight from the hive,” explains company owner Frantz Walker.

Really Raw Honey recommends these helpful home remedies:

• Honey as the ultimate moisturizer – Simply smooth a small amount of raw honey lightly over your skin. You can easily remove it later with splashes of cold water or comfortable warm water. Your skin will feel baby soft.

• Honey as an antibacterial soap – Wash with raw honey straight from the jar and enjoy sparkling clean skin. Facial blemishes and acne caused by cosmetics or allergies will clear up quickly if you use this treatment nightly. All it takes is a dab of raw honey right on the blemish.

• Honey for hair and scalp treatment – Apply raw honey (with or without olive oil) to dry or damp hair. Leave it in your hair for a half hour before washing.

I was so impressed with the unique moisturizing and healing qualities of honey that I’ve included it as an ingredient in my brand-new, age-defying skin complex that’s under development. I plan to introduce the new formula very soon right here in Aging Backwards. As soon as it’s ready, you’ll be the first to hear about it!

Enjoy Lustrous Locks

We spend countless hours – not to mention dollars – trying to improve the appearance of aging skin, but what about our hair?

As we age, our hair loses its color and can appear dull, faded, and coarse. It may become dry and brittle, or even start to fall out.

Factors that can age your hair include sun and harsh weather, hormonal changes, chemical treatments, heat styling, lack of protein, and the natural slow-down of cell regeneration. Even certain medications, such as the ones for blood pressure or cholesterol, can have harmful effects.

Today, I want to tell you about an amazing solution I found from my friend and mentor, Dr. Al Sears.

Ever since I discovered this, my hair looks TWICE as thick as usual. And that’s saying a lot because I already have lots of hair. Not only that, but my hair is shiny and looks like a teenager’s!

I first read about it in Dr. Sears’ skincare newsletter called “Ageless Beauty Secrets.” Dr. Sears and his team of experts have lots of great tips for achieving vibrant-looking skin and hair… naturally.

I’ve made special arrangements to reprint the original article for you here.

Keep reading to find out how to enjoy lustrous locks!

Enjoy Lustrous Locks
By Anesta Dawkins, Professional Hair Stylist and Salon Owner

I’ve been a hair stylist for over 20 years, and I’ve seen it all when it comes to thinning hair. Lots of guys and girls who come to my salon have this problem. Especially as they get older. And believe me, it can be devastating.

They come to me full of frustration. They’ve tried everything – from hair extensions to all kinds of gooey hair products that only fake the funk.

Thinning hair and balding are much more common than you might think. You may be guilty of trying some of these trendy solutions yourself.

But after all that pulling and tugging, it can leave you with a very unhealthy scalp and hair. And even more frustrated than you were before by all your efforts to make your hair look full and sexy.

Let’s face it, gals, isn’t that all we really want? Sexy, lustrous locks!

With more and more of my older female clients looking as bald as their husbands, I decided to do my own research. There just had to be a solution.

So I decided to ask Dr. Sears about it…

Turns out, in most cases, there’s a hormone culprit at the root of the problem. An imbalance of this hormone is usually the case with the guys, but can also happen to women. It gets even worse as we age, and that’s exactly what I was seeing in my salon!

But to explain why that’s happening to us women, I have to get a little more technical…

Now, are you ready for this? The hormone has a big, fancy name, “dihydrotestosterone.” But don’t let that bother you too much. We’ll just call it “DHT” for short.

The point is, if women with the pattern of a receding hair line and hair thinning over the crown were to get tested, the results would most likely show a high level of DHT in their blood.

Ready for the good news? Dr. Sears has a solution. It’s called Infuse…

Infuse is a spray-on strengthening and thickening formula that blocks the deteriorating effects of DHT. It also helps to replenish your scalp and hair by redistributing vitamins and minerals that are necessary for the growth of vibrant hair. It literally feeds new life into your hair follicles, revives your scalp, and brings your hair back to life.

Studies on Infuse show that it:

  • Reduces the appearance of hair loss
  • Gives you thicker, stronger, silkier, shinier hair
  • Helps diminish scalp irritation

So there is hope for us all!

I’ve been using this product myself, especially on my hairline, which has been abused by chemicals and hair weaves over the years. I can’t tell you the difference it has made to my life. My salon clients refuse to go without it.

I’m sure it will work for you as well.

Here’s how you can try it yourself…

Instant Eyelift Secret

Dear Beauty Conscious Reader,

Can an “eyebrow makeover” make you look like you’ve had an eye-lift?

I recently spoke with two-time Emmy-nominated celebrity makeup artist Dee Dee Marcelli and she says it can.

“I don’t think women realize how important brows are. They frame your eyes like a picture frame,” says Marcelli, who has worked in TV for over a decade. Her latest shows include “I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here,” “Million Dollar Password” and “America’s Next Top Model.” She’s also been seen on the red carpet for major awards shows, including the Golden Globes, the Grammys and the Oscars.

A problem many women encounter is thinning of the brows. As you age, your eyebrows can become sparse and weak. Worse, they can develop a tendency to grow low on your brow. This drags down your entire face.

“If you don’t have great brows with really strong definition, you’re not doing yourself justice,” says Marcelli.

“Like an eyelift without Botox, we can lift the brows by using insider secrets and proven products that can restore, renew and bring life back to the brows.”

To address these issues, she recommends the Chella line of eyebrow products. Chella offers a brow conditioner that incorporates nutrients, proteins, peptides and amino acids to improve the appearance of brow thickness and volume. It also fortifies existing hair and minimizes future loss. Plus, there are plenty of tools to help you shape, pluck and remake your brows.

Marcelli’s favorite tool is a must-have, all-in-one razor with brush and comb – especially for men. “Men don’t want to be plucked, but when they hear the word ‘razor’ they’re just fine with cleaning up their brows,” she says.

So which is best – thick or thin brows? According to Marcelli, “Everyone should have eyebrows that go with their face and that can vary from thin to thick and from face to face.”

Aging Backwards Tip: For any little stray eyebrows that may stick up or out, my trick is to spray a dab of hairspray on my fingers and smooth down the eyebrows – keeps them tamed all day.

Have a Youthful Day,

A Colorful Makeover

There’s a quick, safe way to look younger and more vibrant — and it doesn’t require any injecting or cutting.

“Change the color of your tee, rework lipstick and blush, and tie into the color of your hair right now, not what is was back in the day,” says “Hollywood’s Guru of Hue” Jill Kirsh.

I personally spoke to Jill, a color stylist, about the best ways to use color to rejuvenate your look. You may have read about her in the September 2010 issue of InStyle Magazine. She’s worked with red-carpet celebrities, soccer moms, rocker moms and corporate titans.

The idea behind her color system is to provide the tools and know-how to look younger, more beautiful and totally in sync every day – from sweats and suits to party dresses and stilettos.

Jill suggests choosing fashion and makeup colors that work best with your hair color.

Here are her tips:

Tips for Deep Brunettes:

  • Olive green and camel, not so much
  • Emerald green & charcoal gray — YES!
  • Fuchsia and royal blue are stunners
  • Earth tones in makeup are not your friend
  • Go for the rose hues on the lips and cheeks

Tips for Warm Blondes:

  • Camel is a great neutral — it will liven up the warmth of your hair, whereas taupe will make your highlights look like a bad dye job
  • If you’re opting for red, make it tomato and not rose
  • Corals on the lips and a bronze liner will dazzle

Tips for Golden Browns & Redheads:

  • Earth tones rule the day – along with teal and champagne white
  • Donate the burgundy and mint green
  • Gold, bronze and copper are the best for strappy sandals and ballet flats
  • Leave the silver for someone else
  • A bronzer will give the face an overall glow and a swipe of copper gloss will look natural and fresh

Tips for Ash Blondes & Grays:

  • All the dusty pinks and lavenders will do wonders for your hair and face
  • Taupe and dove gray are classy neutrals, leave camel and rust alone!
  • Silver earrings and off-white (or gray) pearls are exquisite
  • Leave the yellow gold behind

5 Tips for a Beautiful New Year

“When one door closes, another opens.”

Did you know Alexander Graham Bell was the first to say that?

But, he didn’t stop there. Here’s the rest of the quote:

“…but we often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door that we do not see the one which has opened for us.”

The end of one year and the beginning of a new one is the perfect time to focus on the newly-opened door … and to ignore the closed one.

If you’re like most people, now is the time to make your annual New Year’s resolutions. You may want to drop weight, quit smoking, start exercising, spend more time with your family, get a better job, buy a house … and the list goes on.

Our tradition of setting New Year’s resolutions dates back 7,000 years ago to the ancient Babylonians. And, people have been breaking their resolutions ever since!

If you want to make and keep your resolutions, the secret may be to commit to just one, specific thing: Be happy!

In fact, extensive research conducted by Sonya Lyubomirsky, PhD., and her colleagues at the University of California, Riverside, showed strong support for the idea that happiness actually leads to successful outcomes, as opposed to following those outcomes. They report, “Happy individuals are more likely than their less happy peers to have fulfilling marriages and relationships, high incomes, superior work performance, community involvement, robust health, and even a long life.”1

If you still plan to make a list of resolutions, follow these five tips to help you keep them. (This way you don’t join the millions of people who celebrate January 17th as “Break Your Resolution Day!”)

New Year’s Resolution Tips for Aging Backwards

1. Keep your list short. Choose only a few goals, write them down, and commit to working on them daily.

2. Use the “buddy system.” Sharing resolutions with a spouse, partner, friend or family member may help you stick to your goal. Your buddy can motivate you and keep you accountable.

3. Be realistic. For example, instead of resolving to drop 50 pounds, make your goal something easier to attain, such as “dropping two pounds a week.” This keeps your goal manageable and less overwhelming.

4. Avoid extremes. Setting a resolution such as “I’ll never eat sugar again” will only set you up for failure. Keep the word “never” out of your resolutions because “never” is usually unattainable.

5. Be happy. Make happiness your number-one resolution. As Dr. Lyubomirsky says, “Sustainable increases in happiness are possible … but require daily and concerted effort and commitment.” In other words, try different activities on a regular basis that are easy to do and which bring you joy.
