I love this Aging Backwards tip sent in by my own niece, Devon Fan, a student at the University of Texas at Austin. Devon told me about a Web site called FreeRice.com, where you test your vocabulary and donate rice through the United Nations to help end world hunger at the same time. To quote Devon, "FreeRice.com combines a lot of the Aging Backwards elements: learning vocab to prevent senility and helping people out."
The way it works is you click on the answer that best defines the vocabulary word on the page. If you get the word right, you get a more difficult word. If you miss it, you get an easier word. For each word you get right, FreeRice.com donates 10 grains of rice to the United Nations World Food Program. I only played for a couple of minutes, but I donated 170 grains of rice. Yesterday, Devon donated 6,000 grains. We both learned a few new vocabulary words along the way.
